How to Use a Fire Extinguisher Properly

Using a fire extinguisher correctly can be crucial in controlling small fires.


Follow these steps to ensure effective use


Pull the Pin

Pull the pin located in the extinguisher's handle. This prevents accidental discharge


Press the Handle

Squeeze the handle to start the flow of extinguishing material, Make sure to aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, as the heat source needs to be eliminated


Aim the Nozzle

Hold the nozzle at an appropriate angle and direct it toward the base of the fire, not towards the smoke or flames, This helps in extinguishing the fire more effectively


Sweep the Nozzle Side to Side   

Move the nozzle horizontally to cover the entire base of the fire, Continue using the extinguisher until the flames are fully extinguished


Step Back After Use 

Once the fire is out, step away from the danger zone and check for any remaining hot spots
